the story of Synactix
A View From The Stage By A Technohead + A Look At The
Local Electronica Scene In Its Infancy.

On June 18, 1999--- the same day as the event-filled Julia
Fordham concert in Metro Manila--- three local electronic bands
CLONE, FIRST DEGREE & SYNACTIX took the stage of Music Museum and bravely exposed their original, squawking,
technological music to a gathered audience of about a hundred
people.

TECHNO BANDS STORM THE MUSEUM

If you think electronic music is non-existent in the
Philippines, then you probably haven’t been out much. There
are DJs who spin techno to make your ears bleed and there
are the underground, unsigned electronic bands who can rock
a venue with the best of the long-haired set.

Three Manila-based groups are playing on June 18, Friday at
the Music Museum at 8:00 pm: they are First Degree, a
Chemical Brothers/KMFD influenced trio who do covers as well
as originals, Synactix, a very Prodigy/Ministry-like big beat
trio cementing aggressive rhythms with violin, guitar and
voice in their gloomy originals and Clone, yet another trio,
this time influenced by the mellower Stereolab, Orbital and
4Hero, who dish out funky originals.

PhilMusic.com has personally seen all three groups in
various locations across the city and can tell you that what
they may lack in stage presence, they more than make up
for with sonic creativity. Check them out. (LZV)
